​Born in Japan, raised in three continents, Mayumi Yoshida is an actor, writer, director, based in Vancouver, BC.

 

As an award-winning director/writer/actor, Mayumi has been a leading force in emerging Asian-Canadian Cinema.

 

She’s an alumna of Women in the Director’s Chair Career Advancement Module, Women in Focus Mentorship at Whistler Film Festival and currently the participant of  WarnerMedia x Canadian Academy Access Writers and Directors Program. She was also selected to be part of TIFF Netflix Talent Accelerator Fellowship and TIFF Writer’s Studio for 2022.

The Music Video she wrote and directed Different Than Before earned a Vimeo Staffpick, Jury Award at SXSW Music Video Competition, and screened at Oscar / BAFTA qualifying film festivals. In 2023 it also got nominated for Music Video of the Year at the JUNO Awards.

Mayumi also worked on the A24/AppleTV+ series SUNNY starring Rashida Jones as an Associate Producer.

Her first feature Akashi-あかし-, which was shot in Japan/Canada premiered at Vancouver International Film Festival and won Audience Choice Award. The film is currently on its festival run internationally.
